Woodstove “Tips

Build an “upside down” fire. Place two large logs on the bottom, cradling a single fire starter between them (you can add a bit of newspaper, but it’s not required – see photos below). Add some smaller logs or kindling on top of the fire starter. Light the fire starter using a long-stem ligher.

Step 1: Circular fire starter is cradled between 2 larger logs, along with bit of newspaper.

Place smaller logs and kindling above the fire starter.

Chopping Wood

An axe should be available for outside use, but please be careful! Keep your hands low, and make sure the axe head is always swinging away from you.

Firewood Purchases

Please contact us if you wish to purchase firewood. We ask $25, measured in the metal dolly beside the wood cage. (Cost in town is about half of this amount.)

The wood cage is on the north side of the shed, visible from the kitchen window. Place wood vertically upright in the metal dolly. A full dolly is about 1.5 cubic feet of firewood (firewood bundles in stores are about half of this amount, or .75 cubic feet). We have left an axe in the wood cage, and a chopping block between the shed and the kitchen. Do not chop wood inside. And please remove shoes in the house.

Please contact us and we will arrange payment through AirBnB.

Thanks!
