Tap water at the dome is from the Baca Grande Water Supply system (see http://bacawater.com/). The water is clean and potable, but with a slight taste/odor. For drinking water, please use the Berkey gravity-fed filter provided in the kitchen.
Berkey Filter System
The Berkey filters are housed in a small gravity-fed urn that feeds water through two black filters located in the upper chamber.
Before filling the upper chamber, empty the lower chamber into a water jug (best stored in fridge). Otherwise, the lower chamber can overflow.
The system provides an urn of clean water in about 30-60 minutes. If the system is slow, the filters may be dirty or more likely, need to be re-primed.
The filters are state-of-the-art and provide excellent drinking water. See Berkey Water Quality Specs
To reprime the filters, use the filter primer gasket hanging on the post behind the filter. Remove the filters, and then press the gasket to the filter nozzle, and the press the other side of the gasket to the sink faucet. Run water into the filter until the filter surface starts to ooze water droplets (for about 5 seconds). More info is at Priming the Berkey Black Filters.
